About Chicago Public Media Chicago Public Media is one of the largest and most respected public media organizations in the country. We launched innovative, iconic shows such as This American Life, Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me..., Nerdette, Making Obama and the ground-breaking podcast Serial. Chicago Public Media engages listeners and users across broadcast radio, digital audio streams, websites, and mobile apps. Our flagship station, WBEZ Chicago (91.5 FM and wbez.org) is Chicago's premier hub for trusted, fact-based journalism, entertaining audio programs, and podcasts. WBEZ's sister service, Vocalo (91.1 FM in Chicago, vocalo.org everywhere), targets a multicultural audience through an urban alternative music and culture format. The Opportunity The Marketing Intern will work with the Sr. Manager of Growth Marketing to gain hands on experience with marketing strategies to grow reach and engagement for Chicago Public Media's audiences. By the end of the internship, the Marketing Intern will have experience in developing cross-channel marketing campaign management; including social, digital display, search, podcast, and on-air. Additionally, the individual will learn how to collect and report KPI's to inform marketing strategy. The Marketing Intern will also assist the Sr. Director of Communications on special projects to gain exposure in PR and Media Relations. We are located at Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois. All interns must be able to work from our office and studios at Navy Pier in Chicago. Due to COVID restrictions, interns may also be required to work remotely with internet access as needed. Chicago Public Media interns gain hands-on experience while working alongside some of the best talent in the business. Our hope is that - after receiving a solid foundation at WBEZ - our interns continue to contribute to this industry. A bit about our internship programs: * Many, but not all, of our interns have completed college or some other form of education and/or certification in the journalism or media field(s). * Many go on to careers in public media or other outlets. Many have found their way back to WBEZ, too. * We pay $14/hour, non-negotiable. * Scheduled work weeks are up to 24 hours/week. * We offer some flexibility on scheduling; most are daytime work hours and on a Monday through Friday schedule * Internships last approximately 6 months, running July 2021 through December 2021. * Because these are part-time roles, they are not eligible for benefits. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS * Experience with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel * Great organizational skills * Passion to gain experience in both the creative and analytical sides of marketing * Excitement for learning about public media as an industry * Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Facebook Ads, Google Ads or Google Analytics a plus Education Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a marketing or communications program.
