Position Description

Position Summary

Under minimal supervision, Supervises performance of day to day testing and data recording operations. Acts as a subject matter expert in primer/coating processes, Color +, and all quality checks required. Summarizes quality control and quality assurance efforts for management. Leads troubleshooting investigations.

Position Responsibilities

  • Supervises auditing of intermediate process streams to ensure that the process is in control and will result in consistent finished products.
  • Supervises collection, preparation, and testing of shipped samples.
  • Supervises process verification checks for primer/coating processes.
  • Supervises completion of required testing in a timely manner
  • Maintains quality records
  • Reviews and implements updates to test method and product specification manuals. Trains quality technicians in new requirements.
  • Supports related functions across other departments as needed.
  • Provides training and guidance to staff.
  • Provides input to troubleshooting efforts
  • Maintains and promotes a safe, accident free, work environment.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Lean Manufacturing Support

  • Capable of performing WIP loss audits
  • Capable of walking machines and auditing for unrecorded material losses.
  • Communicates findings from machine audits to both plant personnel and management to eliminate unrecorded losses.

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required:

  • Previous experience with paint and coatings, either painting or in a lab setting at a technician or formulating level is preferred.
  • Previous experience using rudimentary lab equipment - scales, balances, etc., is preferred.
  • Previous construction experience (home building or as a hobby) is preferred.
  • Capable of understanding and following basic laboratory procedures.
  • Capable of performing developmental work which requires him/her to make a record careful observations.
  • Communicates very well with project team members to develop sampling and specimen preparation schemes.
  • Capable of performing data analysis, knows basic mathematics, statistical analysis and data processing by Excel or Minitab.
  • Trained in root cause analysis techniques such as Kepner Tregoe or Six Sigma.
  • Trained in failure modes of fiber cement building products and process aspects that influence those failure modes.
  • Demonstrates understanding of related testing requirements across multiple departments, products and processes.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. (Occasionally)
  • Ability to traverse inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery (frequent)
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as calculator, copy machine, and computer printer (constant)

Education/Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum High School or GED
  • Generally six years of experience in production
  • Preferred - 2 year/Associates Degree with four years of experience in Production.
