The Credit Underwriter/Portfolio Manager plays an integral role on the Commercial Team. The individual will work directly with Lenders, Credit Officers, Loan Operations, and others to analyze new Commercial credit opportunities, underwrite new or renewed credit exposure, and manage a portfolio of loans and other credit and depository relationships.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Analyzing individual company performance and the impact of industry and competitive dynamics and macroeconomic events on the creditworthiness of clients and prospects

  • Attendclient and prospect meetings, gatherinformationand performresearch in order to identify, quantify, and mitigate underwriting risk inherent in a corporatelending function.

  • Develop strong working relationships with client management, internal teammates, credit officers, attorneys, auditorsand other bankers.

  • Manage assigned portfolio of credits for which you will have primary portfolio management, monitoringand oversight responsibilities.

  • Spreading and in-depth analysis of financial statements, projectionsand business plans

  • Determiningthe appropriate riskrating for a company

  • Preparing in-depth loan approval documents for new loans, amendments, and renewals; Facilitatethe underwriting process for renewals and new loans with the credit analyst pool

  • Completing ongoing periodic credit servicing of loans within the portfolio including obtaining and analyzing financial statements, compliance certificates, and borrowing bases; conduct annual reviews

  • Ensuring compliance with internal bank credit policy and external regulatory requirements

  • Manage past dues, renewals, and exceptions.

  • Coordinate with lending assistant(s) in managing the above for each officer's portfolio.

  • Update monthly and quarterly corporate level reports

  • Prepare loan packages with assistancefrom credit analysts, as available.

  • Present loans at appropriate loancommittees when necessary

  • Manage the appraisal process for all new and renewed credits (i.e., work with borrowers to get appropriate informationto the appraiser, order appraisals, check status, etc.)

  • Write update and status memos on existing loans/relationships, track relationship debt and pay downs

  • Review and sign off on construction drawswhen appropriate

  • Site Inspections

  • Preliminary assessment of new loans

  • Facilitate the loan closing process for both new loans and renewals

  • Work with Loan Operations, as well as attorneys for doc prep

  • Order and review 3rdparty reports when necessary

  • Coordinate closing with applicable partiesand borrower

  • Attention to regulatory requirements and compliance training applicable to position (Bank Secrecy Act, Customer Information Privacy ETC)

  • Integrity, discretion, and respect for confidential information are essential.

Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Formal credit training preferred. At least three to five years of corporate credit underwriting and portfolio management experience.

  • College degree required(concentration in accounting or finance preferred).

  • Proficient with Excel - knowledge of basic excel modeling and formulas - as well as other standard Microsoft products.

  • Knowledge of standard banking applications such as financial spreading software, a plus.

  • BA in Finance or Accounting (preferred)

  • Minimum 12 hours of accounting courses (preferred)

  • Minimum 2-yearsof experience as a Credit Analyst or Senior Lending Assistant. Must be familiar and proficient in underwriting the types of loans that the officers they support originate and manage

  • Must be able to multitask
